ASTM A234 covers forged carbon steel and alloy steel fittings for medium- and high-temperature pressure piping systems and pressure vessels. P22 chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) alloy steel offers good strength at high temperatures. It is commonly used in power generation boilers (steam lines), refineries, petrochemical plants, and other high-temperature/high-pressure piping systems.

This pipe cap is designed for high-pressure applications. It is used to permanently seal the end of a pipe.

In pressure vessel systems, end caps are critical pressure-bearing components used to seal the ends of the vessel body and must strictly adhere to the ASME VIII Div.1 vessel design code. Pipe caps, on the other hand, are used only to seal the ends of pipes and adhere to piping standards such as ASME B16.9/B16.11. They are manufactured from forgings and are selected based on pressure rating.

The two differ fundamentally in their application scenarios, design standards, and safety requirements. End caps directly contribute to the pressure-bearing boundary of the vessel and cannot be replaced by pipe caps. Pipe caps are only used to seal the ends of piping systems and cannot be used on the vessel body.
