ASME Code Construction with A/B/C/D Type Options for Tube-Side Distribution
About Yuhong Group
Yuhong Group Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive supplier of engineered thermal equipment and precision components. We manufacture custom shell & tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and a full spectrum of replacement parts, including tube bundles, U-tubes, heat exchanger tubes, finned tubes, and all critical accessories such as tubesheets, baffles, and channel heads.
Product Overview: Front Head Channel Box
The front head channel box, also known as the stationary head or header, is a vital component of any shell and tube heat exchanger. It serves as the inlet and outlet chamber for the tube-side fluid, distributing the flow into the tubes and collecting it upon exit. Manufactured to ASME Code requirements, our channel boxes are available in various TEMA standard types—including A (Channel and Removable Cover), B (Bonnet), C (Channel Integral with Tubesheet), and D (Special High Pressure Closure)—to match your specific exchanger configuration and service conditions.

TEMA Standard Front-End Head Designs
Type A - Flat Cover Channel (Channel and Removable Cover)
One of the most common designs. The head body is welded to the tube sheet or cast integrally, sealed by a removable flat cover. Advantages: The tube ends can be inspected or plugged by removing the flat cover without dismantling pipe connections, making maintenance convenient.
Type B - Bonnet/Integral Cover
The head body and cover are an integral design, like a "hat" directly fixed to the tube sheet with bolts. Advantages: Compact structure, fewer sealing surfaces, suitable for space-constrained applications or applications with strict leakage risk requirements.
Type C - Channel Integral with Tubesheet
The head body and tube sheet are forged or cast as a single component. Advantages: Eliminates the sealing surface between the head and tube sheet, suitable for high-pressure conditions or services with zero tolerance for leakage.
Type D - Special High Pressure Closure
Designed for extremely high pressures, it employs a special sealing structure (such as lens gaskets, double cone seals, etc.) to ensure reliability under extreme pressures.
Key Features & Benefits
- Fully ASME Compliant Manufacturing: All end caps and tube boxes are designed, manufactured, and inspected according to ASME standards, providing complete Material Quality Reports (MTR) and manufacturing data reports.
- Multi-Pass Design Support: Based on thermal calculations, partitions can be installed within the channels to achieve 2, 4, 6, or more tube passes, optimizing flow rates and heat transfer coefficients.
- Material Combination Flexibility: For corrosive tube-pass fluids, stainless steel lining, weld overlay, or composite plate structures can be used, ensuring corrosion resistance while reducing costs.
- Customized Nozzle Placement: Nozzles can be placed at any angle and location to meet your piping layout requirements, simplifying on-site piping work.
Typical Application Areas
The front-end end cap box is a key component in various heat exchanger configurations, widely used in:
- Refining and Petrochemical Industry: Reactor feed/discharge heat exchangers, tower top condensers
- Power Industry: High-pressure heaters, low-pressure heaters, condenser water chambers
- Marine and Shipbuilding: Seawater coolers, intercoolers
- General Industry: Process heaters, coolers, reboilers
