The ASTM B861 Gr.2 pipe refers to titanium pipes classified under the ASTM B861 specification, specifically in Grade 2 (Gr.2). These pipes are manufactured from commercially pure (CP) titanium and are designed for seamless and welded applications, particularly in industries that require high strength-to-weight ratios, corrosion resistance, and reliability.

 

 

Titanium Grade 2 (Gr.2) Characteristics

Titanium Gr.2 is one of the most commonly used commercially pure titanium grades. It strikes a balance between strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance, making it highly suitable for structural and industrial applications.

    • Titanium (Ti): Approximately 99%
    • Impurities (max values):
      • Carbon (C): ≤ 0.08%
      • Nitrogen (N): ≤ 0.03%
      • Hydrogen (H): ≤ 0.015%
      • Oxygen (O): ≤ 0.25%
      • Iron (Fe): ≤ 0.3%
  2. Mechanical Properties:

    • Tensile strength: ≥ 345 MPa
    • Yield strength (0.2% offset): ≥ 275 MPa
    • Elongation: ≥ 20%
    • Hardness: Approximately 150 HB (Brinell).
  3. Physical Properties:

    • Density: 4.51 g/cm³ (lightweight material).
    • Melting Point: 1668°C.
    • Excellent machinability and weldability.
  4. Corrosion Resistance:
