Introduction

This ASME U-stamped, TEMA BFU type shell and tube heat exchanger is engineered for high-pressure and highly corrosive fluid processing within chemical fertilizer plants. Featuring a Bonnet front head (B), a One-pass shell (F), and a U-tube bundle (U), this configuration provides an optimized thermodynamic solution for synthesis gas, ammonia, and urea production lines. The integration of a longitudinal baffle within the F-shell establishes a pure counter-current flow pattern, significantly increasing the mean temperature difference (MTD) and thermal efficiency while accommodating substantial thermal expansion without stress fractures.

Advantage

1.In fertilizer synthesis loops, immense temperature differences exist between the inlet and outlet streams. The U-tube design allows each individual heat transfer tube to expand and contract independently of the shell structure. This completely eliminates axial thermal stress on the tubesheet and prevents tube buckling or joint failure, minimizing maintenance cycles during rapid shutdown thermal shocks.

 

2.Ammonia ($NH_3$) and carbamate solutions are highly volatile and toxic. To guarantee absolute containment, the tube-to-tubesheet connections are processed via robotic orbital TIG automatic strength-welding followed by hydraulic roller expansion. This double-barrier joint eliminating micro-gaps, preventing stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at the tube entrance, and maintaining zero-leakage reliability under high-pressure conditions up to 25 MPa.

1.Ammonia Synthesis Loop Condensers: Handling high-pressure syn-gas containing hydrogen and nitrogen.

2.Urea Plant Solution Heaters / Strippers: Utilizing corrosion-resistant alloys (such as Duplex 2205 or Urea-Grade 25.22.2) to withstand aggressive ammonium carbamate intermediate fluids.

3.Nitric Acid Preheaters: Optimized thermal integration utilizing residual process gas heat to maximize energy efficiency.

4.Syngas Intercoolers: Removing moisture and high thermal loads between multi-stage compressor units.
