The convective section transports water, steam, hot oil or process fluids, and operates under medium-pressure conditions. A192 complies with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and can be directly used for the pressure components of boilers / heating furnaces. A192 carbon steel tubes are widely used in the convection section of process furnaces due to their suitable service temperature, adequate pressure rating and cost-effectiveness.And serrated fins are applied to significantly enhance gas-side heat transfer, reduce fouling tendency, and improve overall thermal efficiency in flue gas heat recovery service.

 

Why Serrated Fin Tubes Are Used In Convection Section Heat Transfer

 

The main contradiction in the convection section of process furnaces is that the heat transfer coefficient on the flue gas side is extremely low, becoming the bottleneck of overall heat transfer.Serrated fin tubes are specifically designed to solve this problem.

 

With conventional helical fins, fluid flows along the fins, forming a thick boundary layer and resulting in poor heat transfer.Serrated fins continuously cut through the gas flow and generate turbulence, providing a 15% to 30% higher heat transfer coefficient than regular helical fins.And flue gas velocity in the convection section is relatively low, and the efficiency of conventional fins drops noticeably, while serrated fins maintain high heat transfer efficiency.What's more, the serrated structure makes it difficult for dust to adhere, making it suitable for flue gas with slight dust or coking tendencies in cracking furnaces and reforming furnaces.Larger heat transfer area within the same volume,this allows for a smaller convection section and reduces furnace construction costs.
