API 660 Heat Exchanger CES Type For combined Feed Effluent Exchanger For Refinery

 

Introduction:

Combined Feed Effluent Exchanger plays in important role in refining and petrochemical units such as hydro-cracking and hydro-refining. It directly determines the heat recovery efficiency of the unit under the most severe conditions of high pressure, high temperature, high hydrogen  partial pressure and strong corrosion.

 

Technical advantages:

 

1.Strength Welding + Expansion: 0 leakage of the connection between tubes and tubesheet must be guaranteed. Automated TIG welding (GTAW) is typically used for strength welding and it must be tested by Radioactive Test. Then, expansion (fitting expansion) or hydraulic expansion is performed to eliminate tube gaps and prevent gap corrosion.

 

2.Deep Hole Machining of Tube Sheets: Tube sheet thicknesses often exceed 200–500 mm. The parallelism and wall roughness requirements for deep hole machining are extremely high; otherwise, stress concentration or damage to the heat exchanger tubes can easily occur during expansion.

 

Heat Treat and NDT:

 

For highly hardenable materials such alloy steel, rigorous PWHT treatment is essential after welding to eliminate residual stress and prevent hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress cracking (SSC).

 

NDT is performed at:

Butt welds: 100% radiographic testing (RT) + 100% ultrasonic testing (UT)

Forgings and plates: 100% ultrasonic testing to ensure no delamination or inclusion defects.

Pipe-to-tube sheet fillet welds: 100% liquid penetrant testing (PT) + helium mass spectrometry leak detection.

We use this for oil refinery bypass cooling. Despite the dust and ambient heat, the thermal performance hasn't dropped. The external coating is thick and very resistant to corrosion.
