The Desalt Crude Oil - ATM Res Exchanger is a high-performance, industrial-grade stacked shell and tube heat exchanger specifically engineered for refinery atmospheric distillation units (ADU) and crude oil desalting preheating trains. Modern refinery plants continuously face the challenge of expanding heat transfer surfaces within highly confined spatial footprints. By utilizing an advanced vertical stacked design, this configuration delivers double the required thermal efficiency without occupying additional refinery ground space.

Advanced Stress Relief Mechanisms

  • Sliding Saddles: the upper unit is mounted using heavy-duty sliding saddles equipped with low-friction PTFE or graphite slide plates. This permits longitudinal movement, relieving axial stress on the shells.

  • Flange Edge Optimization

  • Nozzle Load Mitigation

Post-Weld Heat Treatment

  • Stress Elimination: Full furnace Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) is executed on the completely welded shell assemblies and channel heads.

  • Hardness Control: PWHT reduces residual stresses induced by heavy welding processes, controls heat-affected zone (HAZ) hardness, and significantly eliminates the risk of Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) and caustic embrittlement commonly encountered in crude desalter mediums.

The SA516 Gr485 material is known for its low-temperature toughness, and the vendor confirmed the impact testing met our specifications. Shipping to a remote location is always challenging, but the crating was heavy-duty and protected the unit during the long truck haul.
