Core Heat Transfer Unit
The heat exchanger tube bundle is the primary pressure-containing component responsible for heat transfer between two fluids. Designed and manufactured in accordance with GB/T 151-2014 or ASME Section VIII Division 1, this product is suitable for liquid-liquid and vapor-liquid heat exchange applications in petrochemical, power generation, pharmaceutical, and HVAC systems.
Construction Types & Process Parameters
Construction Types
  • Fixed Tube Sheet: Suitable for clean media with shell-side and tube-side temperature difference ≤ 60°C
  • U-Tube: Recommended for high temperature, high pressure, and large temperature differences (up to 120°C) where thermal stress is a concern. U-bend radius R ≥ 2 × tube OD
  • Floating Head: Selected when temperature difference exceeds 60°C and pull-through cleaning is required. The floating end compensates for thermal expansion
Tube Dimensions & Materials
  • Tube OD & Wall Thickness: Common sizes - Ø19mm×2mm, Ø25mm×2.5mm, Ø32mm×3mm (wall thickness tolerance ±0.11mm per ASTM B730)
  • Material Selection:
    • Carbon Steel (20# / Q345R): Water, oil, steam; pH 5-9; temperature ≤ 350°C
    • Stainless Steel 304 / 316L: Mildly corrosive liquids, organic fluids, clean steam. Chloride tolerance for 316L ≤ 200ppm
    • Titanium (TA1/TA2): Seawater, chloride salt solutions. Chloride tolerance up to 20,000ppm at operating temperature ≤ 230°C
  • Finned Tube (Optional): Extruded L-type or integrally finned. Fin height 8-16mm, fin spacing 2.0-4.0mm, surface area expansion ratio 2.5-8×

Manufacturing Process & Quality Control
  • Tube Sheet Drilling: Hole diameter tolerance H11, ligament deviation ≤ ±0.2mm
  • Expansion Process: Hydraulic expansion pressure 160-220 MPa with 5-8 second hold time
  • Tube-to-Tubesheet Welding: Automatic GTAW (TIG), fillet weld leg height 1.5-2.0mm
  • Post-Weld Heat Treatment: Required when tubesheet thickness > 40mm or medium contains wet H₂S

Design Pressure -0.1 MPa (vacuum) to 10.0 MPa
Design Temperature -30°C to +450°C

Inspection & Testing Standards
  • Dimensional Check: Bundle OD, length, baffle spacing (tolerance ±1.5mm per GB/T 151)
  • Non-Destructive Examination: 100% Penetrant Testing for welds, 100% Ultrasonic Testing for tubesheet cladding
  • Pressure Testing: Hydrotest at 1.3 × design pressure for ≥ 30 minutes or pneumatic test at 0.6 MPa
Selection Checklist
1. Provide tube-side/shell-side medium, operating temperature, pressure, and allowable pressure drop
2. Specify whether pull-through cleaning is required
3. If chloride concentration exceeds 300ppm, specify Titanium or Duplex 2205
4. For pharmaceutical applications, specify internal surface finish (Ra ≤ 0.6μm) and material certificate 3.1 per EN 10204

We purchased this heat exchanger for a critical amine service in our Texas plant. The ASME VIII-1 stamp gave us the confidence we needed for regulatory compliance. Upon arrival, our third-party inspector did a thorough check—he was impressed by the weld quality and the precise thickness of the SA516 Gr485 shell. It's been running continuously for six months now with zero issues. The documentation package (including material test reports and NDT reports) was complete and well-organized. Definitely a supplier we'll consider for future expansions.
