For clean media (such as softened water), a combined strategy of periodic deep chemical cleaning and routine flushing is standard practice. Timely cleaning effectively minimizes fouling resistance, preserves the design overall heat transfer coefficient, and prevents under-deposit corrosion.

Standard Cleaning and Maintenance Procedures for Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
  1. Safety Shutdown and System Isolation
